Muradabad, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Central Minister Ramdas Athawale has responded to Rahul Gandhi’s recent comments regarding non-vegetarianism during a press interaction in Muradabad. The remarks came in the wake of the BRICS Summit held in New Delhi, which saw participation from several world leaders and culminated in a joint statement.
Athawale emphasized that the summit was a success, highlighting the collaborative spirit among the participating nations. He noted that a resolution condemning a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam was also passed during the event.
When asked about Gandhi’s statements on non-vegetarian food, Athawale remarked that while Gandhi may enjoy non-veg dishes, the issue at hand transcends dietary preferences. He reiterated that the summit focused on mutual support and cooperation among countries, dismissing the relevance of Gandhi’s comments.
Gandhi had previously taken to social media platform X to assert that 80% of Indians consume non-vegetarian food, praising its taste and even mentioning his sister’s chole-bhature. His comments followed a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Modi for foreign guests, which featured a vegetarian menu.
In addition to discussing the summit, Athawale addressed internal matters within the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), particularly regarding Akash Anand, the nephew of BSP leader Mayawati. He invited Anand to join his faction, given the repeated expulsions from the BSP.
Athawale also tackled the ongoing debate in Maharashtra concerning Muslim participation in Garba celebrations during Navratri. He expressed support for the statement made by Amruta Fadnavis, the wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, advocating for inclusivity in the festivities. In contrast, he disagreed with Nitesh Rane’s backing of the Vishva Hindu Parishad’s call to restrict Muslim involvement.
He stated that the essence of Garba should be welcoming to all, echoing the teachings of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, which promote harmony and brotherhood within society.
