New Jersey, June 13: Ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, Brazil’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti and star player Vinicius Junior discussed their preparations and aspirations. They emphasized that Brazil’s goal is not just to perform well but to secure a record sixth World Cup title for the nation.
Brazil is set to face Morocco in their first group match, a game deemed crucial as the team has been waiting for 24 years to lift the World Cup trophy. In the last two tournaments, Brazil was eliminated in the quarter-finals, adding pressure on both players and coaching staff this time around.
Speaking to reporters before the match, Ancelotti acknowledged that feeling nervous and pressured before such a significant tournament is natural. He stated that fear is not always negative; it keeps individuals alert and focused. “Fear is an essential part of life. If you take any threat lightly, you could find yourself in trouble. Fear motivates you to stay cautious and prepare better. That’s why I believe a bit of stress before a major tournament like the World Cup is normal,” he explained.
Ancelotti warned against underestimating any team in modern football, particularly Morocco. He noted that Morocco’s impressive performance in the last World Cup, where they reached the semi-finals and defeated strong teams like Spain and Portugal, should not be overlooked. “We have great respect for Morocco. They are one of the strongest teams in Africa. To win, we must perform at our best in every aspect,” he added.
This World Cup marks Ancelotti’s first as Brazil’s national team coach, a moment he described as incredibly special in his career. He expressed that representing the world’s most successful national team is both an honor and a significant responsibility. Meanwhile, Vinicius Junior stated that he aims to fully enjoy this opportunity, emphasizing that personal accolades do not matter to him. His sole focus is on helping Brazil win the World Cup.
“I am not here to become the tournament’s best player or to win personal honors. My only goal is to help Brazil secure its sixth World Cup title,” Vinicius asserted. Brazil has previously won the FIFA World Cup five times (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002).
He shared that the team has been preparing for this tournament for a long time, and all players are fully focused. The loss to Croatia in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup taught the team several valuable lessons. “The last World Cup taught us how crucial it is to maintain concentration until the final whistle. Small mistakes can be costly in major tournaments,” Vinicius noted.
The Real Madrid player mentioned that he feels more experienced and fit this time around. He praised coach Ancelotti for allowing players the freedom to express themselves, which boosts their confidence. “Ancelotti always says that maintaining focus for the entire 90 minutes is essential. In the World Cup, little details can determine victory or defeat. We will enter the field with that mindset,” Vinicius concluded.
