
Glasgow, July 29: Gulveer Singh from India secured a silver medal in the men’s 10,000 meters final at the Commonwealth Games 2026, held late Tuesday night (according to Indian time).
In a thrilling competition at the Scotstoun Stadium on July 28, Gulveer clocked an impressive time of 27:49.78 seconds, finishing in second place. The gold medal was claimed by Australia’s Kai Robinson with a time of 27:48.93 seconds, while David Mularkey from the Isle of Man took home the bronze with a time of 27:50.28 seconds.
Gulveer completed the first 400 meters in 1:13.5 seconds and finished the 5,000 meters in 14:16.1 seconds. Gold medalist Robinson completed the same distance in 14:16.2 seconds, gradually increasing his pace thereafter. Mularkey, who finished third, completed the halfway mark in 14:16.5 seconds.
Born on June 1, 1998, in Sirsa village, Aligarh district, Gulveer serves as a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army. His running journey began on the village roads and fields while preparing for his recruitment into the army.
After joining the Grenadiers Regiment in 2018, he steadily rose through the ranks to become one of India’s leading distance runners. Gulveer gained international recognition by winning a bronze medal in the 5,000 meters at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships, followed by another bronze in the 10,000 meters at the 2022 Asian Games.
In 2025, he achieved remarkable success at the Asian Athletics Championships in South Korea, winning gold medals in both the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters, establishing himself as a top long-distance runner in Asia.
Gulveer holds several national records in the 5,000 meters, 10,000 meters, mile, and half marathon. In 2025, he became the first Indian to run a mile in under 4 minutes, finishing in 3:55.63, and completed a half marathon in under 60 minutes with a time of 59:42.
He also made history by finishing the 5,000 meters indoor race in 12:59.77, becoming the first Asian athlete to break the 13-minute barrier and set a new Asian record.
