Bomb Attack on BJP Workers in Panihati Leaves Five Injured

Kolkata, May 7: In a shocking incident in the Panihati area of North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, at least five BJP workers were injured when homemade bombs were thrown at them. The police reported the incident on Thursday.

This attack occurred just hours after the murder of Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant to Suvendu Adhikari.

According to police, the incident took place shortly after midnight on Dutta Road in Ward Number 2 of the Panihati municipality. Reports indicate that several BJP workers were engaging with local residents when a group of assailants on a motorcycle arrived. Eyewitnesses claimed that four individuals on the bike hurled bombs at the BJP workers.

Three bombs were thrown before the attackers fled the scene. The assault left five BJP workers seriously injured.

Following the incident, tension spread throughout the area. The injured were admitted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in critical condition, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Upon receiving the information, police from the Khardah station rushed to the site. Central forces were also deployed. The police took control of the situation and began patrolling the area. They are currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify the suspects.

Reacting to the incident, Suvendu Adhikari mentioned the bombings, stating, “For the past 15 years, there has been a politics of revenge in the state. This is the result of 15 years of rampant lawlessness. Last night, there was bomb throwing in Khardah, and BJP workers were shot in Basirhat. Those responsible for the violence will not be spared.”

The BJP has alleged that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is behind the bombing in Panihati. This location is approximately 7 kilometers from Madhyagram, where the personal assistant of Suvendu Adhikari was shot dead while returning home.

The BJP claims that goons affiliated with the TMC orchestrated this incident. However, the TMC has yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.

Since the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections were announced on May 4, reports of post-election violence have emerged from various parts of the state. Incidents of assaults on TMC workers, vandalism of party offices, and tearing down of posters have been reported. Additionally, several BJP workers have been targeted, resulting in numerous injuries.

The police have stated that strict action will be taken against those involved in the violence.
