Thiruvananthapuram, August 7: The youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has ramped up its statewide protests against alleged irregularities in the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC). The movement, led by the Youth Front, aims to address pending recruitments and the handling of accusations against the state’s primary recruitment agency, putting pressure on the government led by V.D. Satheesan.
During the march to the Secretariat, Kerala BJP President K. Surendran made serious allegations against the state government. He accused the administration of failing to order a comprehensive investigation into the alleged irregularities that surfaced during the tenure of the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government. He also criticized the government for ignoring the concerns of thousands of PSC rank holders awaiting appointments.
Surendran claimed that some of the most severe allegations in the PSC’s history are linked to the time when the commission was headed by officials appointed by the previous LDF administration.
The state BJP chief noted that the current administration has shown little interest in holding accountable those responsible or ensuring justice is served.
In recent weeks, the Youth Front has organized protests across Kerala, making the PSC issue a central theme in their campaigns against the newly elected United Democratic Front (UDF) government.
The organization is demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities, a timeline for recruitment, and immediate appointments for eligible rank holders.
Surendran sharply criticized Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, reminding him that as the opposition leader, he had promised PSC rank holders that they would not have to protest outside the Secretariat if the UDF came to power.
He stated, “Today, those same candidates are once again protesting in front of the Secretariat. The state government has neither called them for discussions nor announced a clear timeline for appointments.”
Surendran questioned the silence of left-leaning youth organizations like DYFI, alleging that their reluctance to address the issue stems from the fact that the PSC leadership facing allegations was appointed during the previous LDF government.
Reiterating the Youth Front’s support for PSC rank holders, Surendran declared that the youth wing would continue its statewide movement until the alleged irregularities are investigated and eligible candidates receive their appointments.
As protests gain momentum across Kerala, the PSC controversy is emerging as a significant political challenge for the new UDF government.
