New Delhi, March 22: CPI(M) leader Hannan Mollah has stated that the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections may witness a triangular contest. He attributes this shift to the growing support for the BJP in the state.
In a recent conversation, Mollah expressed skepticism about the BJP’s chances of winning. He believes they will secure only a few seats. The BJP aims to create a triangular competition, whereas traditionally, the contest has been between Congress and the Left. Although the BJP’s voter base has increased slightly, it is not sufficient to pose a serious challenge. Their likelihood of coming to power remains low, with only a handful of seats expected.
Commenting on a statement made by Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad regarding Eid, Mollah highlighted the ongoing violence in the Middle East. He noted that thousands are dying, homes are being destroyed, and there is no safety or peace. In such dire circumstances, celebrating Eid, a festival of joy, seems inappropriate.
He explained that after a month of fasting during Ramadan, Muslims worldwide gather to celebrate Eid with friends and family, including non-Muslims who join in the festivities. However, with the current turmoil, where lives are at risk and many leaders have been killed, it is difficult to celebrate amidst such grief.
Mollah also addressed the relationship with Iran, emphasizing its long-standing nature. He criticized the Indian government for not expressing sorrow over the attacks on Iran, stating that India should have taken a stand. He mentioned that when India faced a gas crisis ten days into the conflict, discussions with Iran were initiated, highlighting that Iran’s support was not due to India’s policies but because of the people. He stressed that friendship cannot be one-sided; India must stand by Iran in tough times.
Regarding a statement from Trump, Mollah remarked that threats seem to be his modus operandi, starting each day with intimidation.
On the central government’s approval of a 20% additional allocation of commercial LPG to consumers, Mollah acknowledged its necessity. Many small restaurants across the country had shut down due to a lack of gas. If kitchens cannot operate, restaurants cannot survive, making it crucial for the government to address this issue.
