Mumbai, June 26: BJP legislator Sanjay Upadhyay has reiterated the party’s support for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across the nation. He promised action against corruption during the TMC’s rule and stated that strict legal measures would be taken against anyone found guilty in the Ram Mandir donation case. BJP leader Gaurav Vallabh emphasized that there cannot be two laws in one nation.
In a conversation, Upadhyay highlighted that the Bharatiya Janata Party, along with its predecessor, the Janata Party, has advocated for the UCC since its inception. Several states have already implemented the UCC, and discussions are underway to introduce it in Maharashtra’s assembly soon. West Bengal is also set to initiate its implementation. Upadhyay stressed that the UCC should be enforced nationwide.
He pointed out that during the TMC’s governance in West Bengal, rampant corruption had left the citizens distressed, leading to a change in power. He expressed confidence that under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s leadership, efforts would be made to expose corrupt practices and bring wrongdoers to justice.
Regarding the Ram Mandir donation issue, Upadhyay mentioned that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to address allegations of corruption and discrepancies. An FIR has also been registered in this matter. The BJP is committed to ensuring that no guilty party escapes punishment, and stringent actions will be taken against offenders.
On the possibility of the Bengal government presenting the UCC bill in the assembly on Monday, BJP leader Gaurav Vallabh stated, “There cannot be ‘one nation, two laws.’ Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was also a proponent of the Uniform Civil Code. For the past 50-60 years, Congress governments have sidelined the UCC agenda due to appeasement politics. Today, every citizen hopes for a single law.”
He added that those opposing the essence of Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s original constitution are nurturing appeasement politics, which will be eradicated. There can never be two laws in one nation.
