New Delhi, August 4: Following a defeat in the Datia Assembly by-election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has implemented significant organizational changes. Under the directive of state BJP president Hemant Khandelwal, the entire organizational structure of the Datia district BJP has been dissolved with immediate effect. This action includes the dismissal of the district president, district officials, district working committee, mandals, fronts, cells, projects, and all current units of the district organization.
The party’s disciplinary order stated that this decision was made based on recommendations from a committee formed to review the results of the Datia by-election.
Earlier on Tuesday, the BJP’s state leadership established a two-member committee to investigate the reasons behind the electoral defeat. This committee, formed by state president Hemant Khandelwal, includes state general secretary Gaurav Randive and senior leader Ambaram Karada. The committee is tasked with discussing the election-related issues with party officials and senior leaders, analyzing the reasons for the loss, and submitting its report to the state leadership.
Ashish Usha Agarwal, the media in-charge of the state BJP, mentioned that the committee would analyze the election results by consulting responsible officials and senior leaders, and it would report its findings to the state president.
The results of the Datia by-election, announced on Monday, dealt a significant blow to the ruling BJP. Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh defeated BJP candidate Ashutosh Tiwari by a margin of 6,016 votes. Ghanshyam Singh received 66,757 votes, while Ashutosh Tiwari secured 60,741 votes. The candidate from the Azad Samaj Party, Damodar Yadav, finished third with 22,527 votes.
Following the election results, defeated candidate Ashutosh Tiwari alleged that some party workers acted against the official candidate, contributing to the Congress candidate’s victory. In response, the party decided to review the reasons for the loss and investigate the alleged anti-party activities.
This development comes after state BJP president Hemant Khandelwal stated that the reasons for the by-election defeat would be examined, and strict actions would be taken against those found involved in anti-party activities.
It is noteworthy that the Datia by-election, held on July 30, was seen as a matter of prestige for both the BJP and Congress. During the campaign, senior leaders from both parties exerted considerable effort to secure victory.
