Shimla, February 19: The President of the Himachal Pradesh BJP, Rajiv Bindal, expressed serious concerns regarding the state of health services in Sirmaur on Wednesday. He highlighted that diagnostic tests have become expensive, registration slips now incur fees, there is a shortage of medications, and the number of doctors has decreased significantly.
Bindal pointed out that three primary health centers and one community health center have been shut down. He criticized the Himcare scheme as ineffective and noted that there has been little attention given to the Ayushman card.
“This situation reflects a grave injustice to the people of Sirmaur district and the Nahan assembly constituency,” he stated.
Referencing a report presented by the Governor, Bindal remarked that it clearly indicates that medical colleges in Chamba, Hamirpur, and Tanda, along with the Chamiayana Super Specialty Hospital and IGMC, have received various forms of financial assistance, while Nahan College has received nothing.
The former health minister mentioned that construction of the Nahan Medical College has been stalled for over three years. He stated that the entire funding for this project was provided by the central government under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, yet there has been no clear accounting for its use.
He raised several questions: “Why has the 11-story building and the proposed 500-bed hospital not yet commenced operations? Why has the 50-bed Mother and Child Hospital project been pending for over three years? Where has the approved funding for the nursing college gone?”
Bindal accused Congress leaders of attempting to shift the entire responsibility onto the central government, using objectionable language, which the BJP vehemently opposed.
He stated, “In the past three and a half years, despite receiving nearly ₹27,000 crores as revenue deficit grants and thousands of crores under various other heads, institutions are shutting down, development is stalled, and people are suffering. But where has the money gone?”
He noted that the BJP delegation registered their protest on this issue and walked out of the all-party meeting before the budget session.
The BJP state president emphasized that the central government has provided unprecedented support to Himachal Pradesh in all development sectors over the past 40 months. However, he blamed the alleged financial mismanagement and administrative failures of the state government for the state’s regression.
