New Delhi, August 13: CPI MP P. Santosh has voiced his concerns regarding the ongoing Cauvery water dispute. He emphasized that the central government should not remain a mere bystander. The unity of the nation is of utmost importance.
Speaking to a news agency about the Cauvery water issue, MP P. Santosh stated, “Water-related disputes are a serious concern, but we need more dialogue and discussion to resolve these issues. There are conflicts between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, as well as between Kerala and Karnataka. The central government must not remain a passive observer.”
He reiterated that national unity is crucial. “There are elements trying to exploit such disputes, essentially ‘fishing in troubled waters.’ The concerned parties must address this matter with sincerity and seriousness. I believe we have wise leadership in the states, and I am hopeful that Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will resolve this issue.”
In response to the announcement of another protest by CJP founder Abhijit Deepak, the CPI MP remarked, “The problem with the BJP is that their facade has been exposed, leading to resignations from their own ranks. They are now attempting to portray this student movement as anti-national. However, they must come to terms with the truth.”
P. Santosh added, “Generally, we stand with the protesting students, there is no doubt about that. The government has accepted most of their demands. However, some legitimate demands remain, and I hope they can be resolved through dialogue.”
Regarding the privilege notice against MP John Brittas for his ‘lungi’ remarks, P. Santosh commented, “This matter is now closed. The Chairman of the Rajya Sabha allowed us to raise this issue very well, and Sushmita also responded. We do not want to escalate divisive issues in society. What Sushmita said was quite objectionable, and we did address it. But now, this matter is over.”
