New Delhi, August 13: Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Sarah Besolo Nyanti, arrived in the national capital on Thursday for a two-day official visit. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has described this visit as a positive step towards strengthening ties with Africa.
On the social media platform X, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal warmly welcomed Nyanti upon her arrival in New Delhi. He stated that her visit provides an opportunity to further solidify the deep and close relations between India and Liberia.
According to the MEA, Nyanti will meet with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at Hyderabad House on Thursday.
Earlier this week, Minister Jaishankar met with a parliamentary delegation from Liberia, funded by the IBC, which was in India for a peer-learning program. He expressed India’s commitment to the Global South partnership.
Nyanti’s visit coincides with a delegation from Liberia, led by Ellen A. Attoh-Reh, which is in India from August 10 to 15 as part of a South-South peer learning mission organized in collaboration with UN Women.
The 15-member delegation includes representatives from Liberia’s Senate, House of Representatives, and Secretariat. This mission is part of the project “Women Legislators in Liberia: Promoting Voice, Sustainable Development, Leadership, and Gender-Responsive Governance.” This initiative is implemented by UN Women Liberia in collaboration with Liberia’s Women’s Legislative Caucus, supported by the IBSA Fund from the governments of India, Brazil, and South Africa.
According to information available on the PMO archive, India and Liberia collaborate in areas such as trade, education, health, and on United Nations platforms. India has been consistently aiding Liberia’s development and capacity building under the Global South partnership.
As per the official website of the Indian Embassy in Liberia, both countries are enhancing mutual cooperation by joining organizations like the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA).
