Mumbai, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Maharashtra BJP leader Kirit Somaiya visited the Gavdevi police station in Mumbai to demand action against actor Imran Khan. This request follows a protest incident linked to the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) that took place at August Kranti Maidan, where Imran Khan, the nephew of actor Aamir Khan, was present.
During the protest, which supported ongoing demonstrations in Delhi, Imran Khan was accompanied by his partner Leha Washington and cousin Zain Mary Khan. The Mumbai police detained him and several others during the event, but they were later released. Somaiya’s visit to the police station has reignited calls for an FIR against Imran Khan.
The protest aimed to highlight demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and raised concerns about the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process. Imran Khan participated in the demonstration, asserting that he was there as a private citizen, not representing any political party.
Following the protest, the police registered an FIR against Imran Khan and others at the Gavdevi police station. Reports indicate that sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) were invoked, including 223, 126(2), 189(2), 189(3), and 189(5), which pertain to non-compliance with orders, wrongful restraint, and unlawful assembly. A police officer filed the complaint.
Somaiya has previously alleged that Imran Khan participated in the protest despite not being an Indian citizen. Media reports suggest that Imran was born in the United States and holds American citizenship. He arrived in India on a work visa but expressed a desire to stay in the country during his marriage to ex-wife Avantika. It remains unclear whether he has obtained Indian citizenship.
