Martandam, March 29: In a significant political controversy, BJP leader S. Vijayadharani has accused the Congress party of “selling seats” in the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections. This accusation comes a day after Congress MP S. Jothimani publicly criticized the DMK-led alliance’s seat-sharing and candidate selection process.
Responding to Jothimani’s claims, Vijayadharani stated that the Congress has a history of such practices. “Jothimani has clearly indicated that seats are being sold within Congress. This is not new; I am well aware of it,” she remarked.
Vijayadharani, who is set to join the BJP after leaving Congress, emphasized that similar incidents have occurred in the past. “These issues have been prevalent in Congress for a long time, and everyone knows it. Jothimani has expressed her sorrow by revealing the truth. It is evident that seats are being sold, and candidates are being chosen in an undemocratic manner,” she added.
She urged the public to oppose such practices and not to vote for parties that engage in selling seats. “People should definitely reject such candidates,” she stated.
Furthermore, Vijayadharani mentioned that she would only take on the responsibility of contesting elections if the party insists on it.
Jothimani had expressed deep concern over the neglect of loyal party workers who have contributed to Congress’s growth in the state over the years. She lamented, “It is sad to see the hard work of dedicated Congress workers being undervalued and effectively ‘sold’ by individuals who have made minimal contributions to strengthening the party.”
In a social media post, she warned that if the seat allocation process, which she described as “rental-based or sale-driven,” continues, it could have serious consequences for the party’s future in Tamil Nadu. “If this trend persists, no one can save the Congress party in the state,” she cautioned.
For the upcoming assembly elections on April 23, Congress has been allocated 28 seats in the 234-member assembly. However, Jothimani claimed that the process of selecting these constituencies was conducted in a “highly secretive manner,” disregarding the opinions of party members and grassroots workers.
