BJP Issues Show-Cause Notices to Four Leaders in West Bengal for Alleged Misconduct

Kolkata, May 20: The West Bengal BJP has taken action against four of its leaders following an incident involving alleged misconduct and assault against a health officer at a health center in Purulia district. The party described the incident as “shameful” and has issued show-cause notices to the implicated leaders, instructing them to refrain from participating in party activities for the time being.

According to reports, on May 12, BJP leaders allegedly misbehaved with the Block Medical Officer of Health (BMOH) at the Pathardi health center located in the Bagmundi block of Purulia district. This incident has sparked controversy in the state’s political landscape.

The leaders are accused of pressuring the health officer with questions regarding the referral of pregnant women from Bagmundi to hospitals in other states.

Following the announcement of the West Bengal Assembly election results, the state BJP leadership took the matter seriously and decided to issue show-cause notices to the accused leaders.

Among those receiving notices is Rakesh Mahato, a member of the Purulia Zilla Parishad and the convenor of the BJP’s Bagmundi block unit. Other recipients include co-convenor Vijaymohan Singh, Mandal-4 president Arun Chandra Majhi, and Youth Wing president Mithun Kumar.

The letter issued by the party alleges intimidation of health officials, use of abusive language, physical harassment, and obstruction of government work. The BJP has labeled these activities as anti-party.

Under the recommendation of the party’s disciplinary committee and the directives of state president and Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya, the four leaders have been temporarily barred from participating in party activities. They have also been asked to provide an explanation within seven days.

Regarding the matter, Shankar Mahato, the BJP’s Purulia district president, stated, “The state leadership has made a decision. I will not comment further. This is entirely an internal party matter.”

The four leaders have declined to comment publicly on the issue. However, Rakesh Mahato mentioned that he had approached the health officer to discuss the poor condition of the health center. He acknowledged that a heated argument took place but denied any allegations of harassment.
