BJP Criticizes SP for Claiming Credit on Welfare Schemes Amidst Law and Order Concerns

Lucknow, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : BJP MP Prakash Pal targeted Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday, accusing him of trying to take credit for welfare schemes initiated during his previous government. This criticism arose following the display of posters outside the SP headquarters showcasing women’s welfare initiatives from Yadav’s tenure.

Pal claimed that the SP is ignoring its past record on law and order while seeking recognition for these programs. The controversy ignited after a poster featuring an image of Goddess Durga was put up, highlighting various women-centric initiatives launched during the SP’s governance in Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking to reporters, Pal suggested that instead of taking credit, Yadav should be held accountable for neglecting the rights of backward classes, Dalits, and the general populace during his administration.

He remarked, “Akhilesh Yadav can claim credit for how he deprived the rights of backward classes, Dalits, and the general public. He can put up posters saying, ‘I did it before, and I will do it again.’ He can showcase incidents of riots from his tenure, claiming, ‘I instigated riots every third day.’ He could mention how traders were forced to close their shops by 5 or 6 PM during his rule.”

Pal further accused the previous SP government of creating an atmosphere of fear, particularly among women and girls. “He (Akhilesh Yadav) can take credit for instilling fear that made girls afraid to go out. They (the SP government) seized people’s land, and they can take credit for that too,” he added.

Challenging the SP’s electoral performance, Pal questioned why, despite claiming significant development, the party failed to secure a strong mandate. “They should explain to us why, despite all these claims, they only managed to win 47 seats while in power,” he stated.

He referenced the SP’s electoral outcomes in 2014 and 2019, questioning why their victories were primarily limited to seats associated with their political family. “If they had done such great work, they would have won,” he asserted.

Pal attributed the SP’s electoral defeats to ‘anti-incumbency’ sentiments and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for their leadership. He also accused the opposition of undermining India’s constitutional institutions, including the Election Commission and the judiciary, referencing a protest march against the Supreme Court that took place recently.

“The opposition wants to tarnish all of India’s constitutional institutions, whether it’s the Election Commission or the Supreme Court, which faced a march yesterday for the first time. They are discrediting these institutions under an international conspiracy, mocking democracy, questioning the Election Commission, and speaking against the judiciary. In this way, the ‘Indi Alliance’ has become anti-India while opposing PM Modi,” he concluded.
