Waris Pathan Questions Imran Khans Lookout Circular Demand Amid Allegations of Funding

Mumbai, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : Waris Pathan, spokesperson for the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), has raised significant questions regarding the demand for a Lookout Circular (LOC) against former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He criticized the allegations of Pakistani funding, emphasizing that the right to peaceful protest is a constitutional guarantee in a democracy.

Pathan expressed concern that individuals with names like ‘Khan’ or ‘Pathan’ often become targets. He called for a thorough investigation into the alleged funding, stating that accusations should be substantiated. “Various political ideologies can coexist in any protest,” he noted. When certain names emerge, he argued, they are often met with suspicion and allegations.

He questioned the fairness of labeling someone a terrorist based solely on their name. Pathan pointed out that members of the Muslim community frequently face discrimination and adverse actions. He recounted instances of police violence, including baton charges and the removal of women’s veils during protests, which have caused ongoing anxiety within the community.

Regarding the allegations of funding linked to Imran Khan, Pathan insisted that any claims must be investigated thoroughly. He criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for targeting individuals based solely on their names. “Many others participated in these protests; it is unjust to single out someone just for their identity,” he argued.

In response to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s comments about a ‘Black Day,’ Pathan noted that many events since the BJP came to power have been perceived as such. He referenced the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, questioning how that day should be remembered. While acknowledging the right to peaceful protests, he condemned the disruptions caused to public transport and the detention of journalists, youth, and women during demonstrations.

On the issue of Special Intensive Review (SIR), Pathan stated that his party has consistently opposed it. He mentioned that the AIMIM’s state president filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding SIR in Bihar. He highlighted growing public discontent over the removal of names from voter lists, citing judicial statements and media reports about alleged discrepancies. Pathan affirmed that no genuine voter should be excluded, as the right to vote is a cornerstone of democracy.
