BJP Candidate Shardvat Mukherjee Launches Campaign with Fish Purchase, Denies Plans to Ban Meat in Bengal

North 24 Parganas, March 23: The political atmosphere in West Bengal is heating up as the assembly elections approach. Candidates from various parties are ramping up their campaigns to secure victory. During a campaign event, BJP candidate Shardvat Mukherjee discussed his electoral strategy while purchasing fish.

Regarding his unique campaign approach, Mukherjee stated, “You must have heard Mamata Banerjee’s claim that if BJP comes to power, the lives of meat-eaters will be ruined. However, she forgets that BJP has been in power in Tripura for over a decade, where 95% of the population is Bengali. That’s why I started my campaign by buying fish. We Bengalis always begin auspicious events with fish.”

When asked whether it is appropriate to campaign with fish during Navratri, Mukherjee responded, “People in Bengal consume fish even during Navratri. All communities here enjoy non-vegetarian food. Dietary habits depend on individual preferences.”

On the topic of distributing fish in the assembly if elected, the BJP candidate said, “If we win, we will distribute hilsa fish, prawns, and other items in the assembly. We will even cook fish to serve to Mamata Banerjee. We have plans to send fish to her home in Kalighat and to her nephew, as he seems to have lost some weight, and we need to feed him more fish.”

In response to the controversy surrounding RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav displaying fish during Navratri in Bihar, Mukherjee remarked, “Different states have different rules. If we ask people in South India to stop eating sour food, it won’t happen. Dietary habits vary among communities.”

Addressing concerns about a potential ban on meat, Mukherjee clarified, “We have no such plans. In fact, we will support it.”
