New Delhi, June 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially announced its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, as well as for the Karnataka Legislative Council elections.
According to party sources, the list of candidates was released through a press statement from the BJP headquarters in New Delhi late Sunday evening.
For the forthcoming biennial Rajya Sabha elections, the BJP has nominated Mahesh Kevat from Madhya Pradesh and M. Nagaraja from Karnataka. Both names have been approved by the party’s Central Election Committee.
Alongside the Rajya Sabha candidates, the BJP has also declared its nominees for the biennial elections to the Karnataka Legislative Council. The party has selected Lingraj Patil and Raghu Kautilya as candidates from Karnataka.
Arun Singh, the BJP’s National General Secretary and in-charge of the headquarters, announced the candidates’ names via the press release.
This announcement comes at a time when the BJP is striving to strengthen its political base in both Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP has already fielded two candidates, Tarun Chugh and Rajneesh Agarwal, while the Congress has nominated Meenakshi Natarajan. Meanwhile, there were speculations that the BJP might introduce another candidate.
The deadline for filing nominations is Monday, with the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for June 18.
While Madhya Pradesh is considered a stronghold for the BJP, Karnataka remains a crucial political state where the party is working to expand its influence.
