Ranchi, June 8: The ruling India alliance in Jharkhand showcased its unity on Sunday, claiming victory in both Rajya Sabha seats ahead of the elections scheduled for June 18.
During a meeting of alliance legislators at the Chief Minister‘s residence on Kanke Road, chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, consensus was reached to jointly support Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Baijnath Ram and Congress nominee Pranav Jha.
The meeting was attended by Bhupesh Baghel, Congress’s central observer and former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, along with most legislators from the alliance and both candidates. After the meeting, leaders expressed confidence that the alliance has sufficient strength to secure victories in both seats, dispelling any uncertainty regarding the elections.
Senior JMM leader and minister Sudivya Kumar asserted that all alliance legislators would unite to contest the elections and win both seats. Pradeep Yadav, leader of the Congress legislative party, echoed this sentiment, stating that the alliance is fully united and the victory of both candidates is assured. On Monday at 11 AM, both candidates will file their nominations, accompanied by legislators and leaders from all alliance parties.
Recently, differences had emerged within the ruling coalition regarding the Rajya Sabha elections. Following the announcement of the Congress candidate, JMM had indicated plans to field candidates for both seats. However, these differences were resolved in a joint meeting of Congress and JMM leaders.
Through Sunday’s meeting, the ruling party aimed to convey a message of unity. Voting for the two Rajya Sabha seats in Jharkhand will take place on June 18. Based on current strength, the India alliance is considered to be in a strong position for both seats. Meanwhile, the opposition BJP is also working to make the elections competitive, exploring possibilities for fielding a candidate for the second seat.
