Andhra Pradesh Forms High-Power Committee to Investigate Attacks on Journalists

Amaravati, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : The government of Andhra Pradesh has taken a significant step to enhance the safety and welfare of journalists by forming a high-power committee. This committee will investigate cases of attacks, murders, and harassment against journalists. The state government issued an order regarding this initiative on Wednesday.

Prioritizing the welfare of journalists, the coalition government has reinstated provisions such as media accreditation and health insurance for reporters. Officials assert that the committee will play a crucial role in addressing issues related to journalists’ safety and welfare.

Previously, a high-power committee established in 2016 was instrumental in resolving various issues concerning journalists. However, many concerns regarding their safety and welfare remain unresolved. Journalist organizations have consistently urged the government to take appropriate measures to ensure justice for those who have been attacked, murdered, or harassed.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu emphasized the importance of protecting the freedom and values of journalism, which is often referred to as the “fourth pillar” of democracy. He has focused on ensuring the safety of journalists who take risks while fulfilling their duties.

In this context, the state’s Minister for Information and Public Relations, Kolusu Parthasarathi, engaged in multiple discussions with senior officials to advance the establishment of the high-power committee. Following these discussions, the government issued the order to form the committee.

The committee will investigate incidents of attacks, murders, and harassment against journalists, and will also recommend appropriate measures to provide justice for affected journalists. Additionally, it will suggest solutions to enhance the safety and welfare of those in the profession.

Journalist organizations across the state have welcomed the formation of the high-power committee. Representatives from these organizations expressed gratitude to the coalition government, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and Minister Kolusu Parthasarathi for prioritizing the safety and welfare of journalists.
