BJP Announces Candidates for Upcoming By-Elections

New Delhi, March 19: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for the 2026 assembly by-elections across various states. The party has nominated candidates for one seat in Goa, one in Nagaland, two in Karnataka, and one in Tripura.

The BJP’s Central Election Committee met on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Nitin Naveen. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other committee members were present. The committee finalized the names of candidates for the upcoming assembly by-elections in different states, following which the party released the candidate list.

Ritesh Ravi Nayak has been nominated for the Ponda assembly seat in Goa. Daochier I Imchen will contest from the reserved Koridang assembly seat in Nagaland. In Karnataka, Veerbhadraiah Charantimath will run from the Bagalkot assembly seat, while Srinivas T. Dasakariyappa will contest from Davanagere South. Jahar Chakraborty has been chosen as the candidate for the Dharmanagar assembly seat in Tripura.

Voting for the assembly seats in Goa, Karnataka, Nagaland, and Tripura is scheduled for April 9. Additionally, elections for assembly seats in Gujarat and Maharashtra will take place on April 23. The counting of votes for all these seats will occur on May 4, similar to other states.

In the lead-up to the by-elections, the BJP and other opposition parties have intensified their campaigning. Leaders and workers from various political parties are reaching out to voters, urging them to support their candidates with various promises.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has deployed 1,111 observers for the assembly elections and by-elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced the election schedule, emphasizing the need for a violence-free and inducement-free election process, ensuring that every voter can cast their vote without fear or bias. Observers will play a crucial role in this regard.
