New Delhi, August 4: Nestled in the picturesque valleys of Uttarakhand, the Binser Mahadev Temple is revered as the abode of Lord Shiva. Every year, during the holy month of Shravan, devotees flock to this temple located in the Ranikhet region.
On Tuesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the temple’s grandeur and urged people to visit Binser Mahadev. He shared a video on the social media platform X, emphasizing the significance of worshiping Lord Shiva during this auspicious time.
He wrote, “The holy month of Sawan holds special importance for the worship of Lord Shiva. During this blessed period, a large number of devotees visit the Binser Mahadev Temple, nestled among the dense deodar forests of Ranikhet, seeking faith, devotion, and spiritual peace. This area not only offers pilgrims a divine experience but also fosters a unique connection with nature. If you are traveling to Ranikhet during Sawan, make sure to visit this sacred abode of Lord Shiva to gain spiritual merit.”
This ancient and sacred temple is renowned for its natural beauty, serene deodar forests, and religious significance. Locals believe the temple was built in the 9th or 10th century, making it a significant religious site in Uttarakhand for centuries.
The temple is also known for its architectural beauty, featuring idols of Ganesh, Gauri, and Maheshmardini. The idol of Maheshmardini is inscribed with texts in ‘Nagarilipi’ dating back to the 9th century. It is believed that the temple was constructed by King Pithth in memory of his father, Bindu, and is also referred to as the Bindeshwar Temple. Surrounded by forests of deodar, pine, and oak, this temple holds a unique place in the state.
Every year, a grand fair is held here on the occasion of Baitak Chaturdashi, attracting devotees from far and wide.
The history of the Binser Mahadev Temple is also considered quite ancient. It is said that Lord Shiva resides here as a self-manifested Shivling. A special belief among locals is that not everyone can reach this temple; only those whom Lord Shiva calls can make the journey.
