New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : The 18th BRICS Summit is underway at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, where journalists and representatives from around the world are sharing their insights. Ren Yan, a senior journalist from China’s state-run People’s Daily, noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping has traveled from Beijing to participate in the summit. He emphasized that this event provides a valuable platform for leaders from India and China to discuss various bilateral issues.
When asked about BRICS’ potential to reshape the global order, Ren stated, “Twenty years ago, Western powers dominated the world order. However, with the emergence of the Global South as a collective organization, I believe we have seen significant growth in the last two decades, gradually shifting the old world order.”
Ren highlighted the diversity within BRICS, which includes countries from multiple continents. He believes that, despite differences, there are more commonalities among member nations. “Our shared goal is development, as we are all developing countries,” he added.
Anastasia Gol’yakova, a blogger from Think BRICS, expressed her gratitude for being hosted in Delhi. “This is my first visit, but I have been covering the BRICS agenda since 2023. This is not my first summit; I have participated in several events organized by India in Russia,” she remarked.
Reflecting on Xi Jinping’s attendance, Gol’yakova recalled a significant moment from a previous summit in Kazan, where the handshake between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi made headlines. “This year, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I hope for more friendly discussions and a focus on peace rather than politics,” she said.
Gol’yakova noted that Xi has not visited India since 2019, although the two leaders have maintained communication. “I hope the relationship between India and China will evolve to a new level,” she stated.
Melissa Hollow from BRICS Africa shared her thoughts on her visit to New Delhi, describing it as a humble and beautiful experience. “Before the summit began, I visited some temples and explored the area. It is a peaceful place, and the local people have been incredibly helpful,” she said, praising the delicious food and vibrant culture.
Discussing the BRICS Business Forum, Hollow remarked on the unity and trust displayed between Prime Minister Modi and the Iranian President. “In South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa actively promotes peaceful dialogue amid ongoing conflicts. Overall, my perspective is positive,” she noted.
On India-South Africa relations, Hollow emphasized the need to enhance trade for mutual benefit. “There is enthusiasm among business representatives from both countries, and I believe we will see progress in the coming year,” she said.
Marco Alpegiani, a journalist from the European Press Federation, highlighted his role in representing a part of the world that currently lacks representation in BRICS. “Europe, as part of the Western society, is politically distant from BRICS goals, but Europeans are very interested in international cooperation,” he explained.
He expressed his commitment to reporting on BRICS cooperation and its achievements, aiming to inspire European audiences. “India is undergoing significant changes, and PM Narendra Modi embodies this transformation, reaching out to global audiences in various ways,” he concluded.
