Livorno, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Navy’s training ship, INS Sudarshini, is currently in Livorno, Italy, as part of the ongoing transoceanic mission “Lokayan 2026.” On Friday, Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, the chief of the Italian Navy, visited the ship, engaging with the crew and cadets.
The Indian Embassy in Rome shared the news on social media, stating, “During its stay in Livorno, INS Sudarshini had the honor of hosting Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto. He was briefed on the ship’s activities and interacted with the crew and cadets. This meeting reflects the growing maritime cooperation and long-standing friendship between India and Italy.”
According to the embassy, several other Italian Navy officials also toured INS Sudarshini. The post highlighted that the ship’s presence in Livorno has strengthened naval relations, with Italian officers, cadets, and sailors visiting the vessel. The visit facilitated professional exchanges, particularly with the Italian Navy Academy and the ship ITS Virginio Fasan.
INS Sudarshini arrived in Livorno on September 9. During its deployment, the ship has covered over 17,400 nautical miles across ten countries. While en route to Livorno, it conducted a maneuvering exercise in the Mediterranean Sea with the Italian Navy’s training ship ITS Palinuro. This joint exercise included coordinated skills and sail operations, providing both crews an opportunity to interact and share professional expertise.
Livorno, home to the prestigious Italian Naval Academy (Accademia Navale), serves as a significant venue for strengthening professional ties between the two navies.
