Bihar Political Party Demands Correction of Voter List Irregularities Ahead of Elections

Patna, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : A high-level delegation from the Jan Suraj Party, led by president Manoj Bharti, met with Bihar’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vinod Singh Gunjiyal on Friday. They presented a memorandum requesting corrections to the voter list ahead of the upcoming Legislative Council elections.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Bharti expressed concerns about irregularities in the voter list. The party identified 1,668 duplicate entries in the Tirhut constituency, where the same name appeared multiple times. They shared this list with the media to highlight the issue.

On Friday, the delegation formally submitted their memorandum to the Election Commission of India. According to Bharti, electoral officials acknowledged the reported discrepancies and indicated that corrective measures were already underway.

Officials informed the delegation that the process of adding, removing, or correcting names on the voter list would continue until the formal announcement of the elections. Bharti noted that the elections would be held based on the final voter list published after the completion of these corrections.

The terms of eight members of the Bihar Legislative Council, elected from teacher and graduate constituencies, will expire in the coming months, making these upcoming elections crucial for all major political parties.

In the teacher constituencies, the current representatives include Nawal Kishore Yadav from the BJP for Patna, Madan Mohan Jha from Congress for Darbhanga, independent Afak Ahmed for Saran, and Sanjay Kumar Singh from CPI for Tirhut.

For the graduate constituencies, Neeraj Kumar from JDU represents Patna, independent Sarvesh Kumar represents Darbhanga, NK Yadav from BJP represents Kosi, and independent Banshidhar Brajwasi represents Tirhut.

The current composition includes three independents, two BJP members, and one each from JDU, Congress, and CPI.

These elections will be critical for parties aiming to maintain their strongholds while also seeking to capture seats currently held by independent candidates. The Patna teacher constituency boasts the highest number of registered voters at 16,689, followed by Saran with 10,800, Tirhut with 9,204, and Darbhanga with 8,967.

In the graduate constituencies, TIrhut leads with approximately 135,000 voters, followed by Kosi with around 134,000, Darbhanga with about 127,000, and Patna with roughly 88,000 voters.

As the current MLC term nears its end, political activities among potential candidates are expected to intensify. Following the announcement of the election schedule, competition among political parties to secure support from teachers and graduates is likely to heat up.
