
Patna, April 28: Bihar has reached a significant milestone with the completion of ten years since the implementation of its prohibition law. This law, which took effect on April 1, 2016, has led to the registration of over 1.1 million cases and the arrest of more than 1.7 million individuals for violations related to alcohol consumption and sales.
Ajay Yadav, Secretary of the Department of Prohibition, Excise, and Registration, informed reporters on Monday that from April 1, 2016, to March 2026, a total of 1,137,731 cases have been recorded. Of these, 560,639 cases were registered by the department, while the police accounted for 577,092 cases. During this period, a total of 1,718,058 individuals were arrested.
The enforcement actions have resulted in the seizure of approximately 24.27 million liters of country-made liquor and 24.04 million liters of foreign liquor. Yadav noted that by March 2026, nearly 98% of the confiscated alcohol had been destroyed. Additionally, 167,447 vehicles were seized during this time, with 80,207 vehicles auctioned and 25,232 released upon payment of penalties.
Furthermore, the department has set a new record in document registration. In the fiscal year 2025-26, it collected a revenue of ₹84.03 billion, exceeding the target of ₹82.50 billion by 101.86%. For the fiscal year 2026-27, an ambitious revenue collection target of ₹100 billion has been established.
Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav announced that on the last day of the fiscal year 2025-26, March 31, a total of 14,905 documents were registered, generating revenue of ₹10.74 billion.
