Patna, August 27: The Bihar government has heightened vigilance in bordering districts due to flash floods in Nepal’s upper catchment areas and an anticipated surge in the Gandak River‘s water flow. Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary visited Bagaha, Valmikinagar, Betiah, and Motihari on Thursday to assess the flood situation, accompanied by several senior officials.
In a media briefing, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary stated that the situation is gradually returning to normal. He expressed concern over the disaster in Nepal, emphasizing the need for everyone to remain alert. “It is a matter of concern that Nepal is facing such a disaster, and we all need to be vigilant,” he remarked.
He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are closely monitoring the situation in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. “Both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister are keeping an eye on the situation in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh,” Chaudhary added. He reassured that conditions are slowly stabilizing, despite the additional water flow into the Gandak River due to rainfall in Nepal, with current discharge levels around one lakh cusecs.
The Chief Minister mentioned that the situation from Valmikinagar to Patna is becoming normal. He advised against panic, stating that conditions are moving towards normalization. “If Lord Indra blesses us, everything will be perfectly fine,” he said. Earlier, the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister reviewed the situation with officials in border areas. They assessed the water levels of the Gandak River, the safety of embankments, sensitive areas, and preparedness for relief and rescue operations, instructing officials to maintain continuous monitoring.
In light of the heavy rainfall and flash floods in Nepal, the administration has been put on alert in bordering districts, including West Champaran and East Champaran. Resources for relief and rescue operations are being prepared in potentially affected areas, and the government has assured that it is continuously monitoring the situation, ready to take immediate action based on any changes in water flow.
