Ahmedabad, August 27: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will review the preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the proposed 2036 Olympic Games in Ahmedabad on Thursday. This visit is part of his one-day tour of Gujarat, which includes programs related to sports, education, pharmaceuticals, local development, and public relations.
Amit Shah’s journey in Gujarat will begin in Amreli district, where he will inaugurate the newly constructed ‘Het Ni Haveli’ lake at the Panchganga Tirth in Dudhala. This lake has been developed by the Harikrishna Foundation. Following this, he will head to Ahmedabad to preside over a review meeting at the Circuit House Annex in the Shahibag area.
This meeting is crucial as the city prepares to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with India having proposed Ahmedabad as the center for the 2036 Olympic bid. The Union Minister has previously reviewed the preparations for these two major sporting events.
In May, Amit Shah had a meeting in Ahmedabad with Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy CM Harsh Sanghvi, and senior officials to assess the progress of sports infrastructure and related projects.
The review is significant as Ahmedabad is expanding its sports infrastructure ahead of the Commonwealth Games. The Narendra Modi Stadium is located in Motera, while construction is underway for the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave. The central government stated that India was awarded the rights to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games after evaluating sports infrastructure, participation, and other facilities across more than 70 countries.
During his visit, Amit Shah will also attend the 72nd convocation ceremony of Gujarat Vidyapeeth at the Pranjivan Vidyarthi Bhavan on Ashram Road. He will be the chief guest at this ceremony, where the Governor of Gujarat and Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapeeth, Acharya Devvrat, will deliver the convocation address.
A total of 900 students from 18 departments across seven faculties will receive degrees. Among the graduating students are 184 undergraduate students, 400 postgraduate students, 232 enrolled in postgraduate programs, 21 postgraduate diploma holders, and 63 MPhil/PhD researchers. Of the total graduates, 441 are women and 459 are men, with 559 expected to attend the ceremony. Twelve students will also be honored with temple and flag medals.
Amit Shah will conclude his day’s events with a ‘Lok Darbar’ at 6:15 PM in the Ghatlodia assembly constituency. This event will take place at BKM School on Bopal Panchayat Road, where he will interact with the public.
