Patna, June 20: Outrage has erupted in the Shahpur area of Bhojpur district, Bihar, following the alleged police encounter that resulted in the death of a young man. Local residents are demanding accountability, and even members of the ruling party have raised questions about the incident. Sanjay Kumar Jha, the National Executive President of JD(U), stated that the video footage related to the encounter raises significant doubts. In response, the state government has suspended four police officers, but many believe this action is insufficient.
Jha emphasized the need for a senior officer to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are held accountable within a specified timeframe. He criticized his own government, asserting that if the administration claims that no criminal should escape justice, then police officers must also be held accountable for their actions.
Meanwhile, Bihar Minister Mithilesh Tiwari from Kaimur has called for a comprehensive investigation into the matter. He questioned the circumstances under which the police engaged in the encounter, especially if the deceased, Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, was mentally unstable and had reportedly surrendered by throwing down his weapon. According to police reports, Tiwari allegedly opened fire first, prompting the police to return fire.
Tiwari was shot and seriously injured during the incident. He was transported to the Ara Sadar Hospital for treatment and later referred to PMCH in Patna, where he succumbed to his injuries.
On Thursday, anger erupted among local villagers, leading to protests on the streets. Demonstrators placed the deceased’s body on the road, voicing their concerns that Tiwari had no prior criminal record and had surrendered before being shot.
In light of the incident, police have registered multiple FIRs related to the events, implicating Bharat Tiwari’s father, Kashinath Tiwari, and brother, Chandan Tiwari, as accused in the case.
