Patna, March 5: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha. He has put an end to speculation that has circulated in Bihar over the past two days, confirming his intention to become a member of the Rajya Sabha. Additionally, he expressed his commitment to support and guide the new Bihar government.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Kumar stated, “For over two decades, you have consistently placed your trust and support in me. It is on this foundation that we have served Bihar and all of you with complete dedication. Your faith and support have empowered Bihar to present a new dimension of development and respect. I have expressed my gratitude to you on several occasions for this.”
He further added, “From the beginning of my parliamentary career, I have had a desire to be a member of both houses of the Bihar Legislative Assembly as well as both houses of Parliament. In this context, I wish to become a member of the Rajya Sabha in the upcoming elections.”
Kumar assured his followers, “I want to sincerely assure you that my relationship with you will continue in the future, and together, we will remain committed to building a developed Bihar. I will provide my full support and guidance to the new government that will be formed.”
Notably, Nitish Kumar has been the Chief Minister of Bihar for nearly 21 years. He took the oath for the 10th time as Chief Minister in 2025, making him the longest-serving Chief Minister in the state.
He first entered the Bihar Legislative Assembly as an independent candidate in 1985 and became a Member of Parliament for the first time in 1989. Kumar has consistently won elections from the flood constituency from 1989 to 2004. He first assumed the Chief Minister’s office in March 2000, but his government fell within seven days due to a lack of majority. Between 2001 and 2004, he served as a Union Cabinet Minister, overseeing the Ministry of Railways. Except for the brief tenure of Jitan Ram Manjhi (from May 20, 2014, to February 20, 2015), Kumar has been the Chief Minister of Bihar since 2005.
