New Delhi, March 15: The government announced on Saturday that the supply of commercial LPG cylinders has resumed in several states across the country. Officials clarified that there are no reports of LPG shortages at retail outlets.
Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary (Marketing and Oil Refinery) in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, provided an update on the current fuel situation. She stated that the government has decided to continue supplying LPG to commercial consumers.
She explained that in some states, commercial LPG cylinders are being delivered directly to industries to meet their needs. This decision is expected to provide relief to businesses, particularly in the restaurant and hospitality sectors.
Despite the ongoing geopolitical conditions, Sharma assured that there are no reports of fuel shortages in the country. She urged the public not to panic and overbook LPG, emphasizing that sufficient supplies are available.
Sharma reiterated that the government is closely monitoring the situation and ensuring the supply of LPG to both domestic and commercial consumers, even with the increase in bookings.
Meanwhile, sources reported that following the safe passage of two LPG vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, more LPG tankers are preparing to navigate the war-affected area, as Iran has granted safe passage to Indian-flagged ships.
Currently, 28 Indian-flagged vessels are operating in the Persian Gulf region, with continuous monitoring of all ships and crews for their safety. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways is also keeping a close watch on the maritime situation in the Persian Gulf, enhancing monitoring and preparedness in light of changing conditions.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime routes, through which nearly 20% of the world’s oil and gas exports pass.
Additionally, two oil tankers, ‘Shivalik’ and ‘Nanda Devi’, are expected to arrive in India in the coming days. Both vessels are owned by the Shipping Corporation of India Limited, and the Indian Navy is overseeing and guiding their safe passage through the sensitive maritime region.
