South Korea and China Secure Semi-Final Spots in AFC Womens Asian Cup 2026

Perth, March 15: South Korea and China have both secured their places in the semi-finals of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026. China triumphed over Chinese Taipei with a 2-0 victory, while South Korea dominated Uzbekistan, winning 6-0. Both teams have also qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup scheduled for 2027.

On Saturday, China faced Chinese Taipei in a quarter-final match that extended into extra time. China showcased their dominance from the start. Wang Shuang thought she had given her team the lead in the 39th minute, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review. Despite maintaining pressure in the second half, China could not score during regulation time.

The first goal of the match came in the 94th minute when Shao Jikin found the net from the penalty area after receiving a pass from Wang. In the 112th minute, Shao earned a penalty, but the goalkeeper saved Wurigumula’s spot kick. In the final two minutes of extra time, China sealed their victory when Jin Kun surged down the right and forced Chen Ying-Hui to score an own goal.

With this win, China continues its impressive record and moves closer to claiming its 10th continental title. However, they will be without Wang in the next match due to a yellow card received in consecutive games. In the semi-finals, China will face the host nation, Australia.

Meanwhile, South Korea faced Uzbekistan in a quarter-final match held in Sydney, winning decisively with a score of 6-0. South Korea maintained complete control throughout the match, giving Uzbekistan little chance to recover. South Korea launched 26 shots compared to just one from Uzbekistan. Son Hwa-Yeon scored the first goal in the 9th minute, followed by a long-range strike from Yu-Jin in the 20th minute. In the second half, Park Soo-Jiyoung, Ji So-Yun, and substitute Lee Yun-Young added to the scoreline, with Zhang Sel-Gi converting a penalty to finalize the score at 6-0. South Korea will face the winner of the quarter-final match between Japan and the Philippines on Sunday.
