Raipur, March 26: Senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel has labeled the upcoming assembly elections in Assam, scheduled for April 9, as a battle against the ‘fake Congress’ led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Speaking to reporters, Baghel stated that corruption has reached unprecedented levels under Sarma’s leadership, and his arrogance is at an all-time high. He expressed confidence that the public would dismantle this arrogance on April 9. Baghel also pointed out that chaos is rampant within the BJP.
Reiterating his previous claims, Baghel emphasized that the ‘real Congress’ is led by state president Gaurav Gogoi, while the ‘fake Congress’ is under Sarma’s command. The former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh remarked that BJP leaders have realized they are not in a position to contest the elections, making the true political battle in Assam one between the ‘real Congress’ and the ‘fake Congress.’
He noted a growing sentiment among Congress supporters throughout Assam. Baghel also expressed disappointment over Sarma’s recent comments regarding Congress. He stated, “His mind seems to be disturbed. I will hold a separate press conference on this in Assam.”
On Wednesday, during a press interaction in Nagaon, Sarma claimed that Congress could form a government in Pakistan and Bangladesh but would never succeed in Assam. He further asserted that Congress has no political future in India. Sarma accused Congress leaders of engaging in irresponsible politics.
Sarma has been a prominent leader in Assam’s Congress, serving as a minister in Congress governments from 2001 to 2015 before joining the BJP in August 2015 and subsequently becoming Chief Minister.
