Chandigarh, April 3: BJP national spokesperson Tarun Chugh launched a scathing attack on the Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. He accused them of double-faced politics, corruption, and misuse of power, stating that the public is now demanding accountability.
Chugh highlighted that individuals who once stood with Anna Hazare in the movement for change are now opposing Kejriwal. He mentioned prominent figures like Kumar Vishwas, Swati Maliwal, Kiran Bedi, Prashant Bhushan, and Ashutosh, indicating a long list of those who have distanced themselves from the party as its true face has emerged. He claimed that AAP has become a symbol of opposition to democracy, the constitution, and national interests.
The BJP leader alleged serious charges against AAP, including looting, corruption, fraud, and extortion. He sarcastically noted that those who previously opposed red beacons and special privileges now demand red carpets in jail and convoys for programs like Vipassana.
Chugh accused the Punjab government of misusing state resources, stating that the state aircraft is being used for trips to Goa and Gujarat, wasting taxpayer money. He also questioned the so-called “Sheesh Mahal,” pointing out the stark contrast between AAP’s rhetoric and actions, as evidenced by the lavish interiors. He mentioned that a “use and throw” policy is adopted with AAP leaders, where anyone raising democratic or constructive questions is expelled from the party.
Addressing the law and order situation in Punjab, Chugh noted that there have been around 20 significant blasts and grenade attacks recently, targeting police stations, temples, and even the BJP headquarters. He described this as alarming and unfortunate. He alleged that activities such as extortion and coercion for tenders are on the rise, affecting industrialists, doctors, and farmers, while drug, transport, and mining mafias continue to harm Punjab.
Criticizing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Chugh stated that the CM is disconnected from the state’s issues and failing to fulfill his leadership responsibilities. He emphasized that there is a climate of fear in Punjab, with even police officers feeling unsafe.
Responding to Mann’s accusations, Chugh remarked that the law and order situation is deteriorating, yet the government is shifting blame instead of taking responsibility. The people of Punjab are now seeking answers, and the government will need to address these pressing issues in the near future.
