Chennai, April 3: In the seventh match of IPL 2026, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are facing off against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium. Punjab’s captain, Shreyas Iyer, won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Punjab team has made no changes to their playing eleven, while CSK is debuting Prashant Veer.
After winning the toss, captain Shreyas Iyer mentioned that the pitch looks fresh, which influenced his decision to bowl first. He also confirmed that he has recovered from his wrist injury and is fully fit. The Punjab Kings are entering this match after a victory against the Gujarat Titans.
Following the toss, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad commented, “The pitch appears a bit dry. I don’t expect much change. Since it’s early April, dew shouldn’t be a factor. Setting a good score on the board and defending it will be crucial. Last season was challenging for us, with some mistakes typical in T20 games. However, that’s all in the past now. We need to focus on each match individually and progress step by step. A strong top order and a good start from the openers have always been vital for CSK, which is why I partnered with Sanju Samson. There is one change in the team; Prashant Veer is playing in place of Matthew Short.”
The Punjab Kings kicked off IPL 2026 with a win, showcasing a strong performance against the Gujarat Titans in their first match, achieving a 3-wicket victory. Chasing a target of 163 runs, Punjab successfully reached the goal, losing 7 wickets. Cooper Connolly played a stellar innings, scoring 72 runs off 44 balls, while Prabhsimran Singh contributed 37 runs off 24 balls.
