Bhubaneswar, 25 August (Kiran News). In view of the rising number of passengers, the central government has approved the construction of a third terminal (T-3) at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar. Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu shared this information during a regional review meeting held in Bhubaneswar on Monday. He informed that the expansion work is currently at the planning stage.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Naidu said that the proposed terminal will not only increase the airport’s passenger handling capacity, but will also reflect Odisha’s art, culture, history, and heritage. He added that travelers arriving in Bhubaneswar will get a glimpse of Odisha’s rich identity through the terminal’s design.
Additionally, the government is considering constructing a new building in place of the old terminal to further strengthen the airport’s infrastructure.
Odisha currently has a total of 20 airstrips, and some of these are being considered for conversion into fully developed airports in coordination with the state government.
Talking about the long-pending Puri airport project, the minister clarified that it has already received in-principle approval from the central government. He said all land and site-related issues have been resolved, and the next steps now depend on the state government.
