Mumbai, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Actress Bhagyashree, known for her role in “Maine Pyar Kiya,” has made a heartfelt appeal to the public ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi. In a recent Instagram post, she urged everyone to opt for environmentally friendly Ganesh idols this year. She highlighted that approximately 90% of people still bring home idols made from Plaster of Paris (POP), which harm the environment upon immersion.
Bhagyashree suggested a better alternative: the ‘Gomay Ganesh’ idol, made from cow dung. This type of idol, often mixed with natural materials like clay, benefits the environment when immersed after the festival.
The Gomay Ganesh idol can be incorporated into a garden’s soil post-immersion, where it gradually transforms into compost, enriching the earth for plants. In her post, Bhagyashree emphasized the importance of choosing traditions that give back to nature. She noted, “It is said that deities reside in cows, and everything derived from them is beneficial. In the past, cow dung was used in villages for pest control and cleanliness, and it remains a valuable fertilizer today.”
She further explained that Gomay Ganesh idols are designed with this scientific perspective in mind. Not only are they eco-friendly, but they also nourish the environment. Immersing the Gomay Ganesh idol in a garden allows for natural fertilization of the soil and plants. This way, the tradition of Ganesh Chaturthi can be celebrated while also giving back to nature instead of causing harm.
