New Delhi, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Kishore Kumar remains one of the most beloved figures in Hindi cinema, captivating audiences with his unique voice and vibrant personality. His songs, ranging from romantic melodies to heart-wrenching ballads, have left a lasting impact on fans across generations. Born in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, on August 4, 1929, his real name was Abhas Kumar Ganguly. Coming from a family steeped in the film industry, with his elder brother Ashok Kumar being a renowned actor, Kishore was naturally drawn to the world of entertainment.
He made his singing debut in 1948 with the film “Ziddi,” and from that moment, there was no looking back. Kishore’s versatility was unmatched; he could effortlessly adapt his voice to suit any genre. Iconic tracks like “Mere Sapno Ki Rani,” “Roop Tera Mastana,” and “Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana” continue to resonate with audiences today.
Not limited to Hindi, Kishore Kumar’s talent spanned multiple languages, including Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, and more. His songs have stood the test of time, appealing to both old and new listeners alike.
Kishore’s eccentric personality also contributed to his fame. Unlike most, who would put up signs warning of dogs, he humorously displayed a sign that read “Beware of Kishore Kumar” outside his home. His candid nature often led to amusing anecdotes in the film industry, including a famous incident involving filmmaker R.C. Talwar, where Kishore would loudly demand his overdue payment each morning.
His life was not without its challenges. During the Emergency period from 1975 to 1977, he famously rejected a request to perform for the government, resulting in a ban on his songs from All India Radio and Doordarshan.
Kishore Kumar’s personal life was equally eventful, marked by four marriages, including to the legendary actress Madhubala. He passed away on October 13, 1987, but his voice and spirit live on in the hearts of millions. Kishore Kumar was not just a singer; he was an artist who brought joy, sorrow, and love to countless lives through his music.
