India and Iran Discuss Regional and International Developments in Security Talks

New Delhi, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : India and Iran’s top security officials held a discussion on Monday, focusing on recent regional and international developments, as well as mutual interests. This was communicated by the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi.

In a post on the social media platform X, the embassy revealed that Mohsin Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, spoke with India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval via telephone.

The embassy stated, “Today evening, Dr. Mohsin Rezaei engaged in a telephonic conversation with NSA Ajit Doval, sharing insights on mutual interests and the latest regional and international events.”

This conversation took place shortly after Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Fattahi’s remarks, in which he noted Tehran’s commitment to addressing issues discussed between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pejashkian during the BRICS summit.

Following last month’s meeting between Modi and Pejashkian, Fattahi indicated to a news agency that the Iranian president had promptly initiated action on the matters discussed.

He stated, “Immediately following these discussions, President Pejashkian directed the relevant ministries and officials to seriously advance the agreements made during the meeting. Several issues are on the agenda for India-Iran relations, which require time and continuous follow-up to implement the agreements effectively and translate them into practical outcomes.”

Fattahi further expressed Iran’s commitment to deepening and developing ties with India across various sectors. “We believe that the existing capabilities between the two countries provide a foundation for broader and more productive cooperation,” he added.

India has also expressed concerns regarding attacks on commercial vessels in the region. In July, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar had a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, where he conveyed India’s deep concerns about ongoing hostilities in the area.

Jaishankar wrote on X, “I spoke today evening with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi and highlighted our serious concerns regarding the ongoing hostilities in the region. I urged that attacks on commercial vessels and sailors be avoided under any circumstances. India condemns any such attacks by any party.”

Tensions remain high as both nations work to strengthen their diplomatic and security ties in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape.
