Darwin, August 16: The Bangladesh cricket team is on the verge of a historic victory against Australia in the ongoing Test match in Darwin. On the fourth day, Bangladesh managed to restrict Australia to just 284 runs in their second innings, taking control of the match.
Expectations were high for a better batting performance from Australia, but aside from Cameron Green, no other batsman stood firm against the Bangladeshi bowlers. Green fought valiantly, scoring 104 runs off 201 balls, including four boundaries and one six, before being dismissed as the ninth wicket.
Australia had hoped for substantial contributions from wicketkeeper Alex Carey and all-rounder Beau Webster, but both fell short. Carey scored 30 runs while Webster managed only 5. Pat Cummins (8) and Mitchell Starc (18) also failed to support Green in the lower order.
The Australian innings concluded at 284 runs after 95.1 overs, giving them a mere 56-run lead.
For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz took 5 wickets, while Hasan Mahmud claimed 3. Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam each secured 1 wicket.
Bangladesh now requires just 57 runs to win this Test match. If successful, it will mark Bangladesh’s first Test victory on Australian soil in 23 years and their second overall against Australia.
Australia had previously collapsed for 198 runs in their first innings. Bangladesh, on the other hand, scored 426 runs in their first innings, establishing a significant 228-run lead. This match has firmly fallen into Bangladesh’s grasp. Tanjid Hasan scored a century in the first innings, marking the first Test century by a Bangladeshi batsman on Australian soil. Hasan Mahmud also took 6 wickets in that innings.
