According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the first quake hit Afghanistan late Wednesday night, September 9, 2026, at 11:32 PM IST. This tremor registered a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located approximately 129 kilometers southeast of Faizabad, Afghanistan, at a depth of 150 kilometers.
The second earthquake struck Tajikistan on Thursday evening, September 10, 2026, at 5:51 PM IST, measuring 4.6 in magnitude. Its epicenter was reported to be 213 kilometers northeast of Faizabad, at coordinates 37.907 latitude and 72.742 longitude, and at a depth of 132 kilometers. Due to the significant depth of both quakes, tremors were felt across various regions, but there have been no reports of damage or casualties so far.
The repeated seismic events have caused concern among residents, highlighting the region’s vulnerability to tectonic activity. The NCS continues to monitor the situation closely and has urged the public to remain calm and disregard any rumors regarding the earthquakes.
