New Delhi, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : Salil Arora, a batsman for Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad, is setting his sights on excelling in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the IPL. He hopes to showcase his talent in these significant tournaments to secure a place in the Indian national team.
For Arora, playing for India is a dream he is diligently working to achieve. He believes that strong performances in domestic cricket and the IPL will pave the way for his entry into the national squad. Currently competing in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League for the Ludhiana Lions, the 23-year-old had a standout showing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26 and made a notable impact in IPL 2026.
In the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Arora emerged as the leading run-scorer for Punjab, amassing 358 runs in eight innings. His remarkable innings included an explosive 125 not out off just 45 balls against Jharkhand. His impressive performance earned him an IPL contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the 2026 season. He also made a mark during death overs, with one of his notable innings being a quick 30 runs off just 10 balls.
Speaking to reporters, Arora expressed his aspirations, stating, “Playing for India is my dream. I want to perform well in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and then excel in the IPL. After that, I aim to play for the Indian team. That is my dream and goal.”
As a wicketkeeper-batsman, Arora is currently a key player in the Ludhiana leadership team in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League and has even captained the team in the absence of Arshdeep Singh. He has delivered some explosive innings, including a remarkable 78 runs off 38 balls against Fazilka Falcons, showcasing his ability to bat effectively at number three.
Reflecting on his performance, Arora noted, “I felt the need to bat higher up the order for the team’s benefit. When I changed my batting position, the results were positive. That’s why I thought I should play higher.”
With his eyes firmly set on the upcoming matches, Arora is determined to maintain his momentum and contribute to his team’s success, aiming for a spot in the semifinals.
