Dhaka, February 9: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) expressed gratitude on Monday to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the International Cricket Council (ICC), and all associated parties following their exit from the T20 World Cup 2026. In addition, the BCB has requested the PCB to arrange a match against India on February 15.
The BCB stated, “The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) extends its thanks to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the International Cricket Council (ICC), and everyone involved.”
The BCB also acknowledged PCB Chairman Mohsin Raza Naqvi, his board, and the cricket fans of Pakistan.
BCB President Mohammad Aminul Islam remarked, “We are greatly impressed by Pakistan’s efforts to support Bangladesh during this time. May our brotherhood continue. Following Pakistan’s brief visit on Tuesday and the anticipated outcomes of our discussions, I request Pakistan to play the ICC T20 World Cup match against India on February 15 for the benefit of the entire cricket ecosystem.”
It is noteworthy that Bangladesh declined to participate in the T20 World Cup 2026 schedule. The BCB had appealed to the ICC for their league-stage matches to be held at venues other than India.
Bangladesh cited security concerns after fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was released from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, requesting to shift their group-stage matches from India to Sri Lanka. They also suggested changing groups with Ireland, but the ICC rejected this appeal, resulting in Scotland being included in the tournament in place of Bangladesh.
