Mumbai, March 6: An awareness campaign was launched in Koderma, Jharkhand, as part of the Prime Minister’s Jan Aushadhi Yojana, aimed at providing affordable and quality medicines across the country. The campaign commenced from the Sadar Hospital, where local officials and community leaders gathered to promote the benefits of generic medicines available at Jan Aushadhi centers.
The initiative was flagged off by MLA Dr. Neera Yadav, Deputy Commissioner Rituraj, and the Civil Surgeon. They highlighted that the availability of generic medicines is a boon for the economically disadvantaged and middle-class families, significantly reducing their medical expenses.
In an interview, MLA Dr. Neera Yadav expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for this initiative, stating that Jan Aushadhi centers are helping families save money on medications. She emphasized that this program is a significant relief for families that previously spent a large portion of their income on medicines.
Deputy Commissioner Rituraj noted that the Jan Aushadhi center in Koderma was established nearly two years ago, and many residents have benefited from it. He urged all citizens to purchase medicines from their nearest Jan Aushadhi center.
The district administration plans to establish more Jan Aushadhi centers around major markets and community health centers (CHCs), with an aim to reach rural areas as well. In addition to free medicines provided in government hospitals, doctors are now recommending generic medicines, offering substantial relief to low-income patients.
Medicines for serious illnesses, such as cancer, are also available at significantly lower prices compared to market rates, easing the financial burden on patients battling severe diseases. Beneficiaries have reported that Jan Aushadhi centers are proving to be beneficial in many ways. Previously, they had to spend a lot on expensive branded medicines, but now they can access the same medications in generic form at much lower prices.
Many users have shared their positive experiences, stating that they have been purchasing medicines from Jan Aushadhi centers for years, and the quality is reliable. Some have noted that prices can be up to 85% lower than those in the market.
Sumit Pandey, the nodal officer for Jan Aushadhi centers, mentioned that there are now approximately 200 active centers in the state, offering essential medicines for cancer, antibiotics, and other categories. He added that medications for common ailments like diabetes, cholesterol, and blood pressure are also available at affordable prices, benefiting a large number of patients.
The Jan Aushadhi project has been operational for nearly eight years, providing economic relief to patients suffering from serious illnesses and ensuring the availability of affordable medicines for millions of families, enhancing their quality of life and trust in healthcare.
