‘Sundar Smriti Lecture Series’ Begins in Rajsamand, Honouring Sacrifice and Dedication

Udaipur, 1 September (Kiran News). The first edition of the ‘Sundar Smriti Lecture Series,’ dedicated to sacrifice and dedication on the centenary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), was held at the District Council auditorium in Rajsamand, the birthplace of the late Sunder Lal Paliwal. Known for his deep connection to Udaipur, Sunder Lal devoted his entire life to women’s honour and public awareness, playing a significant role in the struggle to safeguard democracy.

Keynote: Society Must Respond to Injustice

Ram Prasad, National Head of Law for Dharma Jagran Samnvay, was the chief speaker. He emphasized that as RSS completes 100 years, its journey is marked by struggle, sacrifice, and dedication. He highlighted that many volunteers endured hardships for the organization and that this history of struggle is a source of inspiration for society.

Ram Prasad said, “A living society is one that reacts to injustice and falsehood. When society falls silent, it becomes lifeless.” Citing examples from history, he mentioned how a lack of response led to growing crises, such as during the attack on Somnath Temple by Ghaznavi or incidents in Bangladesh. He stressed that India is not just a piece of land, but a motherland requiring complete loyalty. He shared RSS’s five-point programme for social change: social harmony, environmental protection, family awakening, civic duties, and adopting indigenous practices. These, he said, are the foundation for building a united, prosperous, and independent India.

Tributes and Reminiscences

Several friends and democracy activists from Udaipur and nearby areas shared their memories of Sunder Lal, recalling his leadership, simplicity, and courage. His colleagues recounted stories of his dedication, including his concern for organizational work even during times of personal adversity.

Sunder Lal’s wife, Meena Paliwal, and son, Ghanshyam, said that his life was an example of a true volunteer, always alert for society’s welfare.

The Legacy of Sacrifice and Struggle

The lecture also highlighted Sunder Lal’s contribution in publishing the ‘Chingari’ newsletter to spread awareness and his role in the struggle for democracy, for which he was imprisoned for two years. The infamous Parsola incident, where he fought for the dignity of a tribal girl and was seriously injured, was also recalled. Despite being paralyzed from the waist down, Sunder Lal remained active in social work until his passing in 2021.

Programme Highlights

The event began with floral tributes to Bharat Mata and Sunder Lal, and included inspiring recollections by family and guests. Dr. Sunil Khateek introduced the annual lecture series, to be held every year on new themes. The programme was conducted by Dr. Vinita Paliwal and concluded with a vote of thanks by Nand Lal Singhvi. The event opened with ‘Vande Mataram’ and concluded with the national anthem. A literature stall featuring nationalistic and social works was also set up, attracting the interest of many attendees.
