New Delhi, April 14: The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Tarunjeet Singh Sandhu, has strongly condemned the attack on an Army Brigadier and his family in Vasant Enclave.
Sandhu has directed the Delhi Police Commissioner and senior officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure strict action against the perpetrators.
In a post on the social media platform X, Sandhu expressed his deep concern regarding the incident, which involved a serving Brigadier of the Indian Army, his wife, and their 23-year-old son, a graduate of IIT Delhi.
“I spoke directly with Brigadier P.S. Arora to gather details about the incident and check on their well-being. I also communicated with the Police Commissioner and DCP, instructing them to ensure a swift and comprehensive investigation so that those responsible can be held accountable immediately. Additionally, I have directed the Delhi Police to provide full security to the officer and his family. We are fully committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens and upholding the rule of law,” he stated.
The incident reportedly occurred on the night of April 11, around 10 PM, when the Brigadier stepped out with his son for a walk after dinner.
The Brigadier recounted that as they exited their home, they noticed two individuals in a car drinking alcohol openly. Upon opposing their behavior, a heated argument ensued. Concerned about the escalating situation, the Brigadier called the police and requested a PCR van. However, it took approximately 20 minutes for the police to arrive.
During this delay, the situation worsened as the individuals in the car summoned several accomplices. Soon, 7 to 8 people arrived and began assaulting the Brigadier’s son. When the Brigadier attempted to intervene, he too faced physical aggression and harassment.
According to the Brigadier, they went to the Vasant Vihar police station but did not receive the expected assistance. The police asked them to obtain a Medical Legal Certificate (MLC), but no officer accompanied them to the hospital. Consequently, they had to go to R.R. Hospital on their own to get the MLC. Surprisingly, even after this, the police did not file an FIR immediately and only made a general diary entry.
