Uttar Pradesh Government Empowers Rural Women Through Mushroom Farming

Lucknow, April 14: Farming is no longer limited to just wheat and rice. Papu Devi from Bhadohi district in Uttar Pradesh has proven this in practice. With the support of the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM), she ventured into mushroom production, and her annual earnings have soared to between 800,000 to 1,000,000 rupees.

This mission has become a lifeline for rural women in the state, offering them economic independence and self-reliance. In districts like Bhadohi, where most families rely on traditional agriculture, Papu Devi decided to break the mold and try something new.

With the right guidance from UPSRLM and Development Alternatives, her dream took flight. She invested approximately 250,000 rupees from her savings and took a loan of 50,000 rupees to start her mushroom cultivation. What began as a small venture with limited resources has now transformed into a highly profitable business.

Notably, Papu Devi’s success extends beyond improving her family’s financial situation. She is now providing employment opportunities to other local women in her village. Her model has become a significant inspiration for self-help groups (SHGs) and rural women.

Papu Devi believes that with proper training and government support, women can achieve great success in self-employment. The efforts of the Yogi government are strengthening women’s entrepreneurship and the rural economy in the state.
