Noida Labor Protests Have Minimal Impact on Operations: Madras Group

New Delhi, April 14: The auto parts manufacturing company, Samvardhan Madras International Limited, has reported that their operations have largely remained unaffected despite violent labor protests in Noida over wage-related issues.

In a joint statement, Madras Sumi Wiring India Limited and Samvardhan Madras Automotive Systems Group indicated that business activities have not experienced significant disruptions. However, there have been reports of arson and vandalism in certain areas of Noida due to unrest.

The companies attributed the protests to misinformation regarding wage revisions and have attempted to distance their employees from the movement.

In their regulatory documents, the company stated, “This is a widespread labor issue affecting several industries in Noida and some other cities, stemming from misinformation about wage revisions.”

They further emphasized, “Our operations comply with all applicable laws, and there has been no significant impact on the company.”

Protests have been reported near the group’s units in two major industrial hubs, Sector 62 and Sector 84.

While the companies claim that operations are running normally, sources suggest that some units may temporarily close for a day or two as a precaution.

However, the companies have not confirmed whether their employees were directly involved in the protests.

The statement reiterated, “Our operations comply with all applicable laws, and there has been no significant impact on the company. The safety of our employees is our top priority. Officials are working with the industry to normalize the situation as quickly as possible.”

Amid the unrest, the Uttar Pradesh government announced an interim increase in the minimum wage for all categories of workers.

Effective April 1, 2026, the revised wages will benefit unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers.

According to the government, workers in Noida and Ghaziabad will see the highest increase of 21%, while those in other municipal areas will receive an increase of about 15%.

The state government has also dismissed rumors circulating on social media regarding a uniform minimum wage of ₹20,000, clarifying that no such wage has been set at the state level.

Furthermore, the government stated that the revised interim wage will include both basic pay and dearness allowance, which will vary across different district categories.
