
Gandhinagar, April 14: A State Reserve Police (SRP) soldier stationed at the new secretariat complex in Gandhinagar has reportedly taken his own life. The police confirmed the incident on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Rajendra Singh Gohil, 49, a member of the SRP Group-9 based in Vadodara, originally from Bhavnagar district. At the time of the incident, he was assigned to Gate Number 3 of the heavily secured secretariat complex.
According to police reports, Gohil had taken over his shift from a relieving officer around midnight. It is believed that the tragic event occurred late Monday night. His body was discovered around 5 AM on Tuesday.
A fellow soldier, unable to find Gohil at his designated post, began searching for him and found him hanging from a tree near the gate with a plastic rope.
Upon receiving the information, a team from the Sector-7 police station arrived at the scene. The body was retrieved and sent to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Inspector A.G. Solanki stated, “The body was found around 5 AM on Tuesday, while the incident likely occurred late the previous night. It was discovered when a fellow soldier went looking for him.”
He added that the body has been sent for post-mortem, and a medical examination is underway. Gohil was originally from Bhavnagar district.
Solanki mentioned that statements are being recorded as part of the investigation, including those from family members. Currently, the reasons behind the suicide are being examined.
The police have registered an accidental death case and initiated further investigations. No suicide note has been found so far.
Authorities have indicated that all possible angles are being explored, including personal and work-related issues. A forensic investigation is being conducted within the secure government premises. More information is expected after the post-mortem and investigation are completed.
