New Delhi, May 25: Pabitra Margherita, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, stated on Sunday that the BJP-led government in Assam is focused on development and good governance, dismissing concerns over political statements from the opposition.
Speaking to reporters in the national capital, Margherita emphasized that even before the assembly elections, the BJP had committed to highlighting its developmental achievements rather than responding to opposition rhetoric.
He noted that the ruling coalition currently enjoys the support of over 100 legislators in Assam, with coalition partners actively working on new ideas and initiatives for the welfare and progress of their constituencies.
The central minister asserted that under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership, the state government is dedicated to accelerating development activities across all sectors. He mentioned ongoing discussions on how to further expedite government development projects, focusing on infrastructure, education, language, culture, and the overall advancement of Assam.
Commenting on the opposition, Margherita claimed that despite suffering a significant defeat in the recent assembly elections, Congress remains confused about its political stance and electoral strategy.
He accused Congress of fearing that its political identity might once again be associated with “appeasement politics” focused on a particular minority community. According to Margherita, attempts by opposition leaders to present a different image will not alter public perception at this stage.
He further asserted that the BJP and its allies are committed to building a “progressive Assam” in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and the expectations of the state’s populace.
Margherita concluded by stating that the people of Assam desire a progressive and development-oriented government, and the BJP is working diligently in that direction.
